Julia was brought up in Harpenden, around the family interiors shop, her grandfather was an upholsterer, her mother made the curtains, then her uncle hung them. She even remembers the joy of occasionally running the shop at the age of 14.
Julia went on to study theatre & television costumes, both as a maker and subsequently as a designer. At one stage Julia ran the production department in one of the largest London costume hire companies. Working with major costume designers, sourcing materials, organising outworkers and working to tight deadlines, within brief and to budget.
JRI Design + Soft Furnishings was born in 2002 to fit in with family life, the love of fabric and design continues, the family has now grown and so has the business, through word of mouth and repeat business.
How We Work
Julia will come to your home or workplace and talk through your requirements, this is part of our initial free service.
If you require sampling, research, advice or interior design, we will discuss your needs in more detail and plan the next next stage with you.
We alway advise our customers, where possible to choose things in their own environment, what looks great in a shop can look completely different in your own surroundings.
If you are looking for curtains or blinds and have chosen fabrics from our extensive range of books, Julia will take measurements and work out your quote. Once you are happy with the quote and the deposit is in place, we're working to your deadline.
We fit all our curtains and blinds for free but we do use a handyman, on an hourly rate, to drill the holes.
